About one in five preschoolers in the Netherlands repeats a class. They have difficulty with school skills required for language and arithmetic, show less perseverance, a poorer work attitude, and are less socially skilled. In the research project We All Need Somebody to Lean On, I examine how characteristics of the home environment, parents, and the child interact with the school to determine how children experience their first school year and how they develop. Together with Eva Mutsaers, I wrote an article for Didactief Online.
